Pomona College Facilities and Campus Services Team is looking for a Project Manager  to plan, execute, and finalize the College’s construction and renovation projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. The Project Manager acquires resources and coordinates the efforts of the College team members and third party contractors/consultants to deliver projects according to plan.  The Project Manager will define project objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project life cycle. This position will outline goals and deliverables that support the College goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders. This position researches project related issues and products, estimate and acquire appropriate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals, develop full-scale project plans/timelines and associated communication documents, draft and submit budget proposals and recommend changes when necessary. The Project Manager also identifies potential crisis areas, and devises contingency plans to ensure that projects are completed successfully according to strict deadlines and within budget.

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Planning, or Business is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 10 years of project management experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of process development and execution is required.  5 years of experience at an academic institution is preferred. Ideal candidate must demonstrate effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal skills, must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact, and a keen eye for detail while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s annual goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
This position requires exceptional organizational, time management, analytical and problem solving skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.

Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for Educational Outreach (The Draper Center for Community Partnerships)

The Draper Center for Community Partnerships fosters mutually beneficial exchanges among community members, students, faculty, and staff in order to support educational outreach initiatives, community-based research and learning, and other community engagement activities.  Working jointly with staff to coordinate and administer various programs, the Fellow will support ongoing Draper Center educational outreach programs including the Pomona College Academy for Youth Success (PAYS), Pomona Partners, Learning IN Collaboration, K-12 campus visitations and the opportunity to develop our programs based on Fellow’s interests, expertise and program needs.  The Fellow will collaborate with the Assistant Director to further develop and implement the academic year programming for PAYS, recruit PAYS participants and hire, train, and advise students to work with the summer and academic year PAYS program.  The Fellow will supervise Student Coordinators and support data collection and record keeping for educational outreach programming. The Fellow will maintain consistent communication with PAYS participants and support student achievement throughout the academic year.

Bachelor’s degree is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A recent Pomona College alumnus who has graduated within 3 years of their application is preferred.  A valid driver’s license is required. Must have strong interpersonal communications skills. Must be familiar with MAC, PC, MS office, Adobe, digital photography and social media experience.  Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred. Academic Coordinator (Physics & Astronomy)

Pomona College is looking for an Academic Coordinator to work in our Physics and Astronomy Department. The Academic Coordinator works closely with the Department Chair and performs a broad range of highly skilled administrative and clerical functions, and serves as a resource to faculty, students, and other staff members.  This position is responsible for the overall smooth functioning of the office environment.  Duties and responsibilities are varied and can be confidential in nature. This position will produce final documents formatted with correct spelling and grammar.  This position will manage and prepare the annual budget, and coordinate with the Business Office on various departmental accounts.  The position will be a primary contact for the department with a variety of offices within the college as well as private businesses and the public at large.  The Academic Coordinator will manage publicity for department events, and update and expand department databases. This position will support faculty personnel reviews, faculty recruiting, and program reviews, prepare tenure review packages for Dean’s offices, and supervise student workers.

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s degree or at least 2 years of college or business school in the areas of office administration and organizational procedures or related fields is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of general office experience with increasing responsibility in administrative and clerical assignments is required.  Word processing and spreadsheet experience is required, preferably using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), financial software skills are essential and multimedia software is used.  Candidate is expected to learn new skills as needed with support from the college. Experience working independently, taking initiative, and managing office functions is required, preferably at an academic institution. A valid driver’s license is required. Candidate must know and understand how to supervise student employees. Candidate must understand the organization, policies, and procedures of the academic institution, and sometimes of a technical specialty.

Budget Specialist

Pomona College is looking for a Budget Specialist to assist the Assistant Controller & Budget Administrator with the budget fund, accounting, and the reporting of the College’s operating budget, including the equipment and alterations budget, and the student work budget. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller & Budget Administrator, the Budget Specialist will prepare and distribute operating budget packets to all departments, and prepare summaries to the College’s Vice Presidents. The Budget Specialist will gather data in support of budget plans, coordinate the equipment and alterations budget approval process, assist with reviewing budget requests for accuracy and cost effectiveness, and input approved budgets into the general ledger system. The Budget Specialist will prepare and input budget transfers, and update the VP and Treasurer, and the AVP, Associate Treasurer & Controller on the status of all contingency funds. This position also assists the Assistant Controller of Investments and Trusts by monitoring daily short-term cash needs, including setting up wires for investments and other miscellaneous wires; monitoring and paying investment management invoices; managing the Unitization System for the pooled funds; filing and assisting with trust tax returns; and assisting with various other miscellaneous tasks in the Trust/Investment area and other areas of the Business Office as needed.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in the areas of accounting, financial analysis, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, business administration, or related field is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Demonstrated experience with quantitative analytical skills is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of general accounting experience or work in a similar position is required.  Experience at an academic institution is preferred. Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills.  Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments. Must be able to operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software (such as accounting systems, Raiser’s Edge, CX CARS, Internet research, menu-driven databases). Pomona College is looking for a Cook 1 to join the Dining Services Team. The Cook 1 will prepare customer meal requests using the “Cook to Order” cooking system primarily at the grill services, exhibition, and pizza areas of assigned Dining Halls at Pomona College. This position serves as a prep and helper cook in the kitchen and service areas.  The Cook 1 operates a variety of kitchen equipment and tools to cook, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, shred meats, fruits, vegetables and other ingredients.  This position trims and cuts meats, poultry, and fish by incorporating HACCP and PPE procedures in kitchen production areas.  The Cook 1 is also responsible for maintaining and recording temperatures, food production labeling and dating to ensure Health Department compliance.  This position maintains the kitchen work area at all times to ensure cleanliness.  The Cook 1 also assists with maintaining food service lines and catering production as needed.

Cook III (Dining Services)

The Cook III in Dining Services handles the food production in the kitchen, trains prep cooks, assistant cooks and works with the Executive Chef or Sous Chef/Manager to develop new menu items while seeking innovative ways to cook and prepare food.  This position will direct the work of others, participate in all training sessions, ensure and maintain the cleanliness of all work areas at all times, provide the highest quality of service to customers and perform other duties as required by management or supervisors.  The Cook III reads and follows numerous recipes in English, operates a variety of kitchen equipment, takes and records temperatures to assure compliance with Health Department guidelines and follows all HACCP and PPE procedures in all kitchen production areas to ensure a safe kitchen.  The Cook III will trim and cut meats, poultry and fish; season, marinate, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, shred, carve, prepare, cook, taste and serve various soups, meats, fruits, vegetables, desserts and other ingredients. The Cook III will also keep production records for all food produced; label and date all items and store in appropriate areas, properly use “Just in Time” and “Batch” cooking to insure freshness, minimize leftover and /or excess food production and utilize leftovers to assure minimal waste. 

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  An AOS or Associate Degree from an accredited culinary program, hotel/restaurant school or equivalent educational experience is preferred. Food production assignments and staff supervision in a kitchen at an academic institution is preferred.

Sous Chef/Manager (Dining Services)

Under the direction of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef/Manager will be responsible for providing high quality dining and functional experience to a broad constituency including Pomona College faculty, students, staff and their guests.  The Sous Chef/Manager provides the highest quality of international cuisine dining services to Pomona College’s faculty, students, staff and their guests.  This position assists the Executive Chef in overseeing the performance of all Dining and Catering staff and the direction of food preparation in the kitchen.  The Sous Chef/Manager assists in handing all personnel issues such as scheduling, counseling, hiring, disciplining, coaching, assigning duties, and evaluating training for hourly staff.  This position works collaboratively with the Executive Chef and General Manager to assist in designing and implementing programs, events, and menus that satisfy the needs of students, faculty and staff while ensuring the proper safety, sanitation, and production of all food items and ensuring the kitchen is in compliance with HACCP guidelines. This position also conducts periodic and regular inspections of assigned units to monitor the quality of food preparation and service, food appearance and merchandising, safety, cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance of equipment, production areas and service areas, and employee appearance and cleanliness.

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  An AOS or Associate Degree from an accredited culinary program, hotel/restaurant school or equivalent educational experience is preferred. Must take and successfully pass California ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification within 30 days of hire and successfully recertify every 5 years.  Certified nutrition, sanitation, hospitality management, culinary training, and/or bakery training.  Eligibility of Certified Chef de Cuisine (C.C.C.) or Certified Sous Chef (C.S.C.) through ACF.  A valid driver’s license is essential to drive College-owned vehicles. A minimum of 5 years of demonstrable culinary leadership as a chef or a related position experience is required.  Increasing responsibility and knowledge of the food services industry in the areas of commercial kitchen and food service operations including menu planning and schedule production, automated food ordering, preparation, set-up, pricing, merchandising, presentation, maintenance is preferred.  Knowledge of HACCP and experience at an academic institution is preferred. Pomona College is looking for a Utility Worker to join Dining Services. The Utility Worker maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of work in the food service areas of assigned Dining Halls, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and restroom cleanliness.  This position cleans and restocks trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans in assigned Dining Halls.  The Utility Worker also assists with loading and unloading trucks, setup and strike of dining and banquet rooms.  As a certified California Food Handler this position follows the policies of the college and HACCP to ensure a safe, clean environment for the Pomona College community.

Pomona College is looking for a Duplicating and Technical Assistant (DATA) to work in Duplicating Services.  Reporting directly to the Duplicating Services Coordinator, the Duplicating and Technical Assistant will provide coverage in the absence of the Duplicating Services Coordinator, and execute a variety of duplicating support requests for departmental services. The Duplicating and Technical Assistant will assist with the daily production of duplicating services, manage print services from the administrative information system to the reprographic systems, produce labels, process billing, request equipment repairs, maintain the address database for the Music Department and for Rembrandt, and work and administer software that is utilized for creating, or modifying existing, centralized print forms for equipment in duplicating services. This position will also assist with equipment maintenance and perform special projects/tasks/duties as assigned.

Requirements:  Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. Candidate must have technical skills set that combines an extensive working knowledge of reprographic equipment, PC/Mac hardware, printers and other peripherals and essential software to include: Adobe, Windows, MS Office required.  Experience at an academic institution is preferred. Candidate must be able to demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with strong verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and customer service skills, and must be able to follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments. HVAC and Controls Technician

Target hiring hourly wage:  $27.07 per hour
Regular, part-time, 12-month position

The HVAC and Controls Technician perform master journey-level work in the areas of repair, maintenance, service, modification and troubleshooting.  This position works closely with the Energy Manager to monitor and adjust the full range of heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment by means of an energy management system throughout the College. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director Facilities and Campus Services Maintenance, the HVAC and Controls Technician will write, modify, and analyze codes to enhance and debug EMS computer control software programs and train staff on the use of controls software program. This position will maintain, modify, and repair heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems and equipment including DX (direct expansion) and hydronic systems. This position will evaluate preliminary mechanical design plans and specifications for remodels, upgrade or new construction, and monitor the work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal code requirements. This position also responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and services.

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Associates degree in Air and Hydronic Balancing, or a related field is preferred.  EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification is required. A valid driver’s license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required.  A minimum of 10 years of HVAC experience with increasing responsibility in Air and Hydroid Balancing is required.  Completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work. An understanding of lock out tag out, fall arrest, confined space, MSDS, asbestos and lead identification, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, in-house OSHA and respirator training is required. Selected candidate must take and successfully pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire.
