China, 1936. Fung (Dicky Cheung) and Shue Po (Xie Miao) are friends who share one dream: to participate in a martial arts demonstration at the upcoming Berlin Olympic Games. There is government support, but it's only half of what they need to attend the Games. Determined, the athletes attempt to earn the rest through fund raising, but there are numerous obstacles. Local triads conspire to hurt their chances, and a rival martial arts school is intent on sending their students to the Games instead. They challenge Fung's master, Cheung Chi Kong (Yu Rong Guang), but the arranged tourney forces Fung and Shue Po to face off against each other in a winner-takes-all elimination match. Meanwhile, Fung's beloved, talented long distance runner Ngan Ling (Patricia Wong) also desires to compete in the Games. But, in a tragic twist, she discovers that she has a spinal condition - one that could prove fatal if she continues to pursue her dream.

Bab'Aziz

The Prince Who Contemplated His Soul is the story of a blind dervish named Bab'Aziz and his spirited granddaughter, Ishtar. Together they wander the desert in search of a great reunion of dervishes that takes place just once every thirty years. With faith as their only guide, the two journey for days through the expansive, barren landscape. To keep Ishtar entertained, Bab'Aziz relays the ancient tale of a prince who relinquished his realm in order to remain next to a small pool in the desert, staring into its depths while contemplating his soul. As the tale of the prince unfolds, the two encounter other travelers with stories of their own--including Osman, who longs for the beautiful woman he met at the bottom of a well, and Zaid, who searches for the ravishing young woman who fled from him after being seduced by his songs. A fairytale-like story of longing and belonging, filmed in the enchanting and ever-shifting sandscapes of Tunisia and Iran.

Upon graduating from elementary school, Takaki Tono and his close friend Akari Shinohara drifted apart. Akari moved to Tochigi Prefecture due to her parents' jobs, while Takaki attended a junior high in Tokyo. The two kept in contact by writing letters, but despite the special feelings that existed between them, the only thing that persisted was time. When Takaki became aware that his family would move to Kagoshima, he decided to go see Akari since they would be too far apart to visit each other after he moved. However, when the day came, a severe snowstorm delayed Takaki's trip, and it would be hours before he reached Iwafune, where they promised to meet.
