The Pomona College Board of Trustees has elected three new members: Bernard C. Chan, Scott R. Green and Francine P. Scinto. Pomona College, founded in 1887, is one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges and the founding member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges.

Bernard C. Chan, Pomona Class of ’88, is president of Asia Financial Group and its subsidiary Asian Insurance, one of Hong Kong’s leading insurers. In 2008, he was elected to the National People’s Congress, China’s highest body of state power, as one of 36 Hong Kong deputies. In 2004, he was appointed a non-official member of Hong Kong’s Executive Council, Hong Kong’s highest policy-making body. From 1998-08, he was a member of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council.

Among his public service activities, Chan is chair of the Hong Kong Council for Social Service; member, the Antiquities Advisory Board; deputy chair, Council of Oxfam Hong Kong; chair, Lingnan University Council; and chair, Hong Kong-Thailand Business Council. He was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2002 and a Commander (3rd Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand in 2004. In 2006, he was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

An art major at Pomona, Chan produced a book of his art, during his senior year, with proceeds endowing a scholarship fund for minority students. He later served as the young alumni representative on the Board of Trustees from 1995-98; a member of his 10th Reunion Fund Committee; co-chair of his 20th Reunion Fund Committee; and as a member of the National Campaign Committee, Development Volunteer Committee and Admissions Volunteer Committee.

Scott R. Green, Pomona Class of ’88, is the founder and CEO of StrataCare, Inc. (Irvine), which provides Workers’ Compensation medical cost containment software to large insurance and Fortune 500 companies.

He is also active in St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church and is currently an elder and member of the church’s session. He has served as chairman of the church’s building fundraising committee and the pre-school fundraising board.

While a student at Pomona, Green was an economics major and a member of the 1986 championship basketball team, coached by Greg Popovich, now coach of the NBA San Antonio Spurs. Since graduation, he served as co-chair of both his 15th and 20th Reunion Fund Committees, and as an alumni member of the Pomona Board of Trustees Committee on Trustees. He earned his MBA from the University of California, Irvine.

Francine Scinto is vice president of Orange County Associates (Santa Ana), a commercial and industrial real estate investment and management firm.

The mother of two Pomona College students, Daniel ’09 and Stephan ’11, as well as recent Pitzer graduate Madeline, Scinto is a member of the Pomona College Parents Council; an active volunteer for Pomona Parent Fund calling; and has co-hosted, with her husband, Daniel J. Scinto III, Welcome Parties for the Pomona’s Parents Council.
