Trusts and Estates
The Office of Trusts and Estates works with Pomona College alumni and other donors who would like to make a charitable gift to the College through their will, living trust, life insurance or account beneficiary designation, or a life-income agreement. Using techniques that fall under the umbrella terms of “planned giving” or “deferred giving,” a donor may make a decision to make a future gift, confirmed in a legal agreement, that provides tax and income benefits to the donor or selected heirs and beneficiaries in addition to supporting the mission of the College.
The most common and simplest form of planned gift is a bequest through a will or living trust, or a beneficiary designation on an account, such as a traditional IRA or 401(K) plan. More complex gifts through charitable trusts and life income contracts are also possible, though they require more planning, negotiation and formal counsel than other gifts.
Pomona College recognizes planned giving donors through two special recognition societies. Bequest donors are recognized through the Granite & Sagebrush Society and life income donors through the College’s nationally recognized program, the Pomona Plan, are recognized through the Allen F. Hawley Society.
