Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is my gift a part of Campaign Pomona: Daring Minds?
A: Yes, gifts to the Annual Fund are a part of the Daring Minds campaign. In fact, during the Daring Minds campaign, an expanded Annual Fund will jump-start the affordability and teaching initiatives while permanent funding is sought. Annual Fund gifts will also provide ongoing support for other priorities including scholarships, faculty support and academic and student life programs.
Q: How can I make a gift?
A: There are four ways to make a contribution:
- Complete an employee payroll deduction form [pdf] [pdf] to have a portion of your gift automatically deducted from each paycheck.
- Send a personal check made payable to "Pomona College" to:
The Office of Annual Giving, 333 N. College Way, Claremont, CA 91711.
- Charge your gift to your MasterCard, Visa or American Express.
- Securely online
- Toll-free: 1-888-736-9425 / Campus Ext. 18142
- Make a gift of appreciated securities.
Q: What can I direct my gift to?
A: You have many choices if you'd like to dedicate your gift to a particular program. Most faculty and staff choose to make an unrestricted gift (a gift not restricted for a specific purpose) to provide support where the need is greatest. Unrestricted gifts enable the College to fund areas of critical need and take advantage of unexpected opportunities that will benefit the College and our students. Some of our colleagues choose to give to the Faculty & Staff Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid to one of the College’s deserving students whose Pomona experience is made possible through faculty and staff support. Others may choose to give to a specific department or program, such as the Draper Center for Community Partnerships or Summer Research and Internships.
Q: I work here—why should I give a gift to my employer?
A: Giving is a way to demonstrate our own commitment to the important mission of Pomona College. Every gift, large and small, helps to make the Pomona education a better one for students. We each care about the College in our own way. The Faculty & Staff Campaign allows each of us to support a part of the College that is important to us. Additionally, a strong foundation of giving from faculty and staff sends an important message to prospective donors in the broader community. Over the course of the previous campaign which ended in 2003, Pomona’s faculty and staff gave more than $1 million in support of financial aid, teaching resources, and the vibrant community which brings us all together as a campus.
Q: Who can I ask for more information?
A: One of the members of the Faculty/Staff Campaign Committee should be able to answer your questions or help you find the answers. This volunteer committee, which represents a broad range of the campus community, includes: Craig Arteaga-Johnson (Annual Giving), Frank Bedoya (Campus Life), Mary Booker (Financial Aid), Laurie Cameron (Theatre and Dance), Guadalupe Cobos (Housekeeping), Steve Comba (Art Museum), Kevin Dettmar (English), Bob Gaines (Geology), Jill Grigsby (Sociology), Susan McWilliams (Politics), Rob Nemo (Grounds), Shahriar Shahriari (Mathematics), Ted Sheldon (Dining Services), Jonathan Wright (Biology), and Sam Yamashita (History).
