Award-Winning Novelist Jonathan Franzen to Give Reading
at Pomona College |

Jonathan Franzen, author of the best-selling novel "The
Corrections" (2001), will give a reading from his work, at
Pomona College, on November 29. The event, which is part of
the Pomona College English Department’s Literary Series,
begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Rose Hills Theatre in Smith
Campus Center. The event is open to the public, and there is no

Franzen received the national National Book Award for "The
Corrections," which was also nominated for the 2002
Pen/Faulkner Award, the American Booksellers Association
Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award. His other
works include the novels "The Twenty-Seventh City" (1988)
and "Strong Motion" (1992), and the collection of essays
"How to Be Alone "(2002). He is the recipient of a
Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writer’s Award and the
American Academy’s Berlin Prize.
Born near Chicago in 1959, Franzen attended Swarthmore
College, graduating in 1981. He studied in Berlin as a
Fulbright Scholar and later took a job at Harvard
University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
Currently, Franzen lives in New York City where he often
writes for The New Yorker.
