Acclaimed Guitarist and Percussionist to Perform at
Pomona College |

Grammy-nominated guitarist David Starobin and percussionist
David Colson will perform music by Starobin, Colson, Pol
Ruders, Gunther Schuller and others on Saturday, November 5,
at 8 p.m., in the Pomona College Bridges Hall of Music
(Little Bridges),150 E. 4th Street, Claremont. There is no
charge to attend.
Noted as “arguably the most influential American classical
guitarist of the 20th Century" by Soundboard Magazine,
Starobin’s performances and recordings have earned him
prominence in the world of classical music. In 1981, he
founded Bridge Records, Inc., and his work for Bridge as
guitarist, producer and executive producer have earned him
five Indie Awards and 11 Grammy nominations. His 1999 CD, “Newdance,”
received one of those Grammy nominations, for Best Classical
Solo Recording, and won the Association for Independent
Music’s “Indie Award” for best classical CD.
Starobin has performed throughout the world, collaborating
with ensembles that include The New York Philharmonic,
National Symphony, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
and the Copenhagen Radio Orchestra.
Colson, a conductor as well as a percussionist, was music
director of the Chico Symphony Orchestra and is associate
director and the associative artist of the Colorado College
Summer Conservatory and Music Festival. He has also
performed with many other professional ensembles, including
the Sacramento Symphony and the American Ballet Theater
orchestra. He can most recently be heard on the CD Complete
Crumb Edition 9; Ancient Voices of Children, Madrigals Books
I-IV, Eine Kleine Mitternachtmusik (2005).
