College Presents Author Michael Shermer on “The
Boundaries of Religion and Belief” |

Pomona College presents Michael Shermer, noted author and
director of the Skeptics Society, who will give a talk on
“The Boundaries of Reason and Belief,” on April 4, at 8
p.m., in the auditorium of Pomona’s Seaver North Building
(645 N. College Ave., Claremont). During his talk, he will
give his perspective on the debate on intelligent design,
why people develop the beliefs they have, and answer
questions from the audience
The founding publisher of Skeptic magazine, Shermer is a
monthly columnist for Scientific American and the author of
several books including Why People Believe Weird Things
(2004); Science Fiction: Where the Known Meets the
Unknown (2005); and The Science of Good and Evil: Why
People Cheat, Gossip, Share, Care and Follow the Golden Rule
(2004). He is also the co-host and producer of the 13-hour
Family Channel series “Exploring the Unknown” and has been
interviewed for numerous documentaries aired on PBS, A&E,
Discovery Channel, The History Channel, The Science Channel
and The Learning Channel.
Shermer received his B.A. in psychology from Pepperdine
University, his M.A. in experimental psychology from
California State University, Fullerton and his Ph.D. in the
history of science from Claremont Graduate School.
