Two
Directing Debuts and an Original Play Showcased in
Pomona College Theatre Productions |
 |
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Pomona College,
Theatre for The Claremont Colleges, will showcase the
talents of college seniors in three separate productions
this April.
Pomona College senior theatre major Michael Cruz is
directing No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre. This play is
considered to be Sartre’s best play and most accessible
dramatization of his philosophy of existentialism. The drama
examines three people who find themselves confined to a
drawing room as their punishment in hell. Cast members
include Aidan Gould, Jocelyn Matsuo and Dorothy Drury.
Performances will be held on April 6-8, at 8 p.m.
Pitzer College senior theatre major Jacob Stoebel is
directing Rocket Man by Steven Dietz. A serious
comedy about the road not taken, Rocket Man explores one
man’s obsessive desire to find this “parallel world”—and the
profound effect of his decision on his family and friends.
Cast members include Zack Schenkkan, Alex Lydon, Sarah “Sam”
Rorick, Megan Hanley and Camille Brown. Performances will be
held on April 13-15, at 8 p.m.
Pomona College senior theatre major Christina Hurtado’s play
Bed the Ethereal Plane is being directed by Scripps
theatre major Anna Penniman. Written as part of Hurtado’s
senior project in playwriting, her play follows the story of
a human trafficker who is trapped in the Bermuda Triangle,
where he discovers past monarchs serving their time in
purgatory. Performances will be held on April 18-20, at 8
p.m.
All performances are in the Allen Studio Theatre, located in
the Seaver Theatre Complex (300 E. Bonita Ave., Claremont).
There is no set price to attend but audience members will be
asked for a donation at the door. For further information,
call the Pomona College Seaver Theatre Box Office at (909)
621-8525 or (909) 607-4375. Box Office hours are Monday
through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
