Senior Class Gift History
Here we offer a historical glimpse of the development of the Senior Class Gift tradition at Pomona College:
1894 · Senior Class Gift was established with a donation of library books by 11 seniors.
1899 · Art work was donated.
1902 · Students gave $1 per student, per year, for ten years, for the purchase of books.
1924 · 172 seniors donated $4,500 to establish a retirement fund for professors.
1930-1945 · Senior Class Gift supported financial aid as part of the Annual Fund.
1983 · Senior Class Gift was reinvigorated with a donation of $934 from 79 seniors.
1986 · Senior Class tree program was inaugurated. A tree was planted on Marston Quad to recognize a record set for greatest participation (58%) and most money raised ($2,041).
1993 · Record set for most money raised ($2,043). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
1994 · Record set for most money raised ($2,570). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
1995 · Record set for greatest participation (62%) and most money raised ($2,992). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
1996 · Record set for greatest participation (78%) and most money raised ($3,967). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
1999 · Record set for most money raised ($4,500). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
2001 · Record set for most money raised ($4,793). Tree planted near Carnegie Hall.
2006 · Record set for most money raised ($5,238). Tree planted on Marston Quad.
2007 · Record set for most money raised ($6,018). Tree planted near Marston Quad.
2010 · Record set for most money raised ($6,488). Tree planted near Marston Quad.
2011 · Record set for greatest participation (79%). Tree planted near Marston Quad.
