How Can Parents Help
Current Pomona Students?
Whether you are near or far, the Career Development Office (CDO) welcomes and appreciates the support you can provide as a parent of a current or past Pomona College student. There are many opportunities to assist students with their future careers.
Pave the Way for Employer Opportunities
Consider hiring Pomona students and graduates for internships or full-time employment. The CDO has many opportunities to assist you with hiring Pomona students and graduates for internships or full-time employment in your company or organization. The CDO has many hiring resources to facilitate your requests. You can post a position on our listings or participate in our recruiting or internship programs.
Become a Parent Career Advisor
Register as a Parent Career Advisor on the
Sagehen Career Connection, a
password-protected, online database comprised of volunteer alumni and parents
willing to share career and graduate/professional school experiences, information, and advice with students and
alumni.
Perform Mock Interviews
The CDO invites alumni, parents, and employers to spend a half or full day preparing students for job interviews by performing mock interviews. Interviewers spend about 20 minutes interviewing and then 10 minutes providing feedback.
Participate in a Panel or Workshop
Each semester the CDO hosts a number of panels and workshops that include speakers from a wide variety of professions. Students greatly appreciate hearing from practicing professionals and we invite you to come to campus and share your expertise.
Job Shadowing or Hosting Students at Your Place of Employment
Through the CDO "Real World" Program, groups of up to 20 students visit Los Angeles area employers to learn more about these specific industries and organizations. Past excursions have included trips to Paramount Pictures, TWBA Chiat/Day advertising agency, Rhino Records Company, Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Disney Feature Animation, and the Los Angeles Times. Contact the CDO if you would like to host a Real World program at your organization.
