Special Interest Supplements

General Instructions

All supplements should be submitted using the website SlideRoom. You can access SlideRoom one of two ways: 

Access SlideRoom through the Common Application

  1. Choose "Yes" to the art supplement question in the Pomona College section of the "My Colleges" tab.
  2. A new section labeled Art Supplement will appear. Within this section you will find a link which will take you to Pomona's specific SlideRoom portal for accepting media.
  3. Login to your existing SlideRoom account or create a new account.
  4. Once you log into Pomona's SlideRoom portal, you will see a list of the various programs for which you can submit a supplement. Identify the correct program and click "begin." You many submit multiple program supplements from this page.
  5. You will be unable to submit your SlideRoom supplement(s) until you submit the Common Application to Pomona College.

Access Slideroom Directly

  1. If you choose, you may access the Pomona College SlideRoom portal directly instead of via the Common App link, at pomonacollege.slideroom.com.
  2. Login to your existing SlideRoom account or create a new account. You will be prompted to connect your profile to your Common App account.
  3. Once you log into Pomona's SlideRoom portal, you will see a list of the various programs for which you can submit a supplement. Identify the correct program and click "begin." You many submit multiple program supplements from this page.
  4. You will be unable to submit your SlideRoom supplement(s) until you submit the Common Application to Pomona College.

 

Please note that although Common Application refers to only "arts" supplements, science and math supplements should also be submitted using SlideRoom.

Athletics

Pomona College is no longer accepting athletic supplements. If you anticipate participating in varsity athletics at Pomona, you should contact coaching staff directly at (909) 621-8016 or complete the Prospective Athlete Form on the Pomona-Pitzer Athletics website.

Dance Supplements

Dance supplements may come from any genre, but students are encouraged to visit the Dance Department Website to view the full list of course offerings.

Instructions:

  • Materials must be submitted electronically through the website SlideRoom. Please see instructions on accessing SlideRoom above.
  • Please follow the instructions within SlideRoom on submission of materials.
  • Please be sure that your supplement is complete before submitting, as you cannot make changes after submission.


REQUIRED:
Please include a pdf document for the Dance Department faculty to review. At minimum, it should include a résumé or list summarizing experience with dance, giving years and technique(s) studied,summer programs, clubs, performances, repertoire (solo and/or ensemble), and/or awards received.

OPTIONAL:
In addition, you may submit no more than 2 minutes of video of a performance, rehearsal, or studio work representing your abilities. It can be an original piece choreographed by the student or other dancer. The chosen piece should highlight your uniqueness as a dancer.

Candidates who do not have access to video equipment are not penalized and are given due consideration based on the information they provide in writing.

Music Supplements

If you would like your ability as a musician to be considered, please submit a music supplement. A music supplement may show your ability on any instrument, including voice, and in any musical style. It may also show your ability in composition, music scholarship, or in another area of music. Students are encouraged to visit the Music Department website to see the range of opportunities available to students.

  • Please follow the instructions within SlideRoom on submission of materials.
  • Please be sure that your supplement is complete before submitting, as you cannot make changes after submission.

A complete music supplement includes, at minimum, TWO components:

  1. A PDF document. At minimum, it should include a résumé or list summarizing experience with instrument, voice and/or composition, giving years studied, ensemble participation, repertoire (solo and/or ensemble), and awards received.
  2. Please submit at least 10 minutes of solo performance representing your abilities and demonstrating contrasting styles. You may submit each piece as a separate file, or a single recording may include more than one piece. Please list your instrument/voice part, and work(s) performed on the recording.

Because we want to hear your "live" sound, please submit unprocessed samples. Do not add reverb, employ auto-tuning, or otherwise enhance the sound.

If you submit a video recording, please make sure the audio is clear.

You may include individual solo recordings for up to three instruments or vocal parts, but you must clearly label each piece uploaded.

Science and Mathematics Supplements

Students who have been involved in research beyond classroom requirements may submit the Science Supplement. Research may come from any mathematic, natural science or social science discipline that is represented by Pomona College's academic offerings.

  • Please follow the instructions within SlideRoom on submission of materials.
  • Please be sure that your supplement is complete before submitting, as you cannot make changes after submission.

In order to evaluate your submission, the faculty needs to understand the context of the work you have done. In addition to a description of your project, its methodology and results, please provide the following information:

  1. Detailed explanation of the nature of the project (e.g. group project, independent work, etc.) and a description of the extent of your involvement in and contribution to the project.
  2. Specific source of your project (e.g. independent study, science fair, etc.), including funding source, if applicable.
  3. Duration of your project.
  4. Your research supervisor's name and relationship to you (if applicable).
  5. Grades and comments received from your teacher or faculty evaluator, if applicable.
  6. You are also strongly encouraged to include a letter of evaluation written by your research mentor that addresses the quality of your work.
  7. In addition, you may submit related videos, documents, or letters of reference from research supervisors.

Theatre Supplements

Theatre supplements may come from any genre, but students are encouraged to visit the Theatre Department Website to view the full list of course offerings.

Instructions:

  • Materials must be submitted electronically through the website SlideRoom. Please see instructions on accessing SlideRoom above.
  • Please follow the instructions within SlideRoom on submission of materials.
  • Please be sure that your supplement is complete before submitting, as you cannot make changes after submission.

REQUIRED:
Please include a pdf document for the Theatre Department faculty to review. At minimum, it should include a résumé listing roles played, starting with most recent first. Give year, character, play, author, group, and director. Summarize other theatrical experience as well (directing, writing, design, lighting and sound, backstage; designers may submit a portfolio representing their best work). Describe drama courses and/or private study and future plans for involvement in the arts.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED:
In addition, you should submit video audition - not exceeding 2 minutes and focusing on you (e.g. monologue). In the case of a group piece, the candidate should clearly state in the summary information, which performer he/she is. 


OPTIONAL:
While optional, you may also scan and upload related letters of recommendations as pdf documents.

Visual Arts Supplements

Visual arts supplements may come from any genre or medium, but students should be aware that Pomona offers courses only the following disciplines: Drawing, Painting, Digital Art & Electronic Media, Sculpture, and Photography & Digital Imaging.


Instructions:

  • Materials must be submitted electronically through the website Slideroom. Please see instructions on accessing Slideroom above.
  • Please follow the instructions within Slideroom on submission of materials. At minimum, you should complete the basic information form, upload a résumé (pdf) summarizing experience with visual art, and submit at least 10 pieces of original artwork representing your abilities. Slideroom accepts many types of image and video files, including YouTube embedded video links. Please check their website for a full list of accepted file types.
  • Please be sure that your supplement is complete before submitting, as you cannot make changes after submission.

The Office of Admission welcomes supplemental materials from students who have had significant participation in music, dance, theatre, visual arts, the sciences or mathematics (that exceeds coursework and course requirements) if they wish to emphasize their accomplishments in these areas as part of their application for admission. As the College seeks to enroll a student body with a diversity of talents and interests, submitting supplementary materials can help the Admissions staff better understand how you might contribute in these areas. Please note that submitting supplemental materials is not required, but the Admissions staff is interested in learning as much about each applicant’s extracurricular participation and achievements in these areas as possible.

This is completely optional, and should be submitted only by those students who have had significant experience in high school with science, mathematics or the arts, and who plan to continue their involvement at the collegiate level.

Supplemental information is reviewed by faculty in the corresponding departments, and the resulting feedback is considered as part of the overall holistic review of a candidate by the admissions committee. Because this process takes time, please submit your materials as early as possible, and no later than the deadline for the admission program to which you are applying:

  • Early Decision 1: November 8th
  • Early Decision 2: January 1st
  • Regular Decision: January 1st
  • Transfer: March 15
