Financial Assistance for the Claremont Colleges Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
Pomona College recognizes that the cost of coverage in the Claremont Colleges Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) may cause financial hardship for some students and their families. For this reason, all students enrolled in SHIP who receive Pomona College financial aid will be packaged automatically with Pomona Grant to cover half of the cost of the health insurance and a loan to cover the second half. Students who would like to opt out of the loan portion should return the Revised Award Letter they receive with an indication that they would like to "decline" the loan. Students who do not receive Pomona College financial aid can contact the Office of Financial Aid to request loan assistance to cover the full cost.
All Pomona students are required to carry health insurance coverage while enrolled. Students will be enrolled automatically in the College's student health insurance unless they waive out on or before June 15, 2012 by providing proof of a private insurance policy. To provide proof of coverage, please visit my.pomona.edu.
The cost of SHIP for students under the age of twenty-six is $1,779, and for students twenty-six and older, the cost is $3,003.
Student health insurance brochures are available from the Dean of Students Office.
If a student who is enrolled in SHIP incurs medical expenses not covered by the Plan, a request for assistance may be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid. Most requests will be met with a loan assistance.
