I hope your summer is going well. Below you will find a short list of forms we need you to complete before you return to campus in the fall along with links to the myPomona portal, and other items for your consideration and information. Please pay attention to the deadlines!

Important Dates 2013-2014
There are a few dates we strongly encourage you to consider before returning to campus:
- August 31- Residence halls open at 8 a.m for returning students.
- September 3 - Classes begin at 8:10 a.m. and Convocation is held in Bridges Hall of Music at 11:00 a.m.
- September 16 - Last day to add a course or change board plan; last day for course fee refunds.
- October 24 - Last day to drop a course.
- November 7 - Last day to choose pass/no credit grading option; last day to sign student promissory notes.
- December 21 - Residence halls close at noon.
- February 14-16 - Family Weekend 2013

If you did not pre-enroll for Fall 2013, you will need to contact your advisor for registration clearance. If you are not sure who your advisor was when you last attended, or if your advisor is still at the College, contact the Office of the Registrar at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once your advisor has cleared you to register you can enroll on MyPomona anytime before classes begin. If your password has expired, use the Password Manager at www.mypassword.pomona.edu.
All students living on campus must check in at the Office of Campus Life upon arrival to receive a room key. ID cards that were issued last year are still valid and will not be replaced except for lost or damaged cards. Students who need ID cards will obtain them at the Office of Campus Life.

Meal Plan Options
16 meals per week plus choice of flex dollars per semester
12 meals per week plus choice of flex dollars per semester
14 meals per week plus choice of flex dollars per semester
The dining halls serve 19 meals a week. On Saturday and Sunday there are only two meals: Brunch and Dinner. For more information on the meal plan, please go to www.pomona.edu/dining.
You may eat all your meals in the dining halls on any of the five campuses. Flex dollars can be used to purchase additional dining hall meals or to treat friends or family when they visit the campus. If you prefer, you may use your flex dollars to eat in any of the informal dining sites on the five Colleges: the Coop Fountain and the Sagehen Cafe at Pomona, the Mudd Hole at Harvey Mudd, the Motley at Scripps, the Hub at CMC, the Shakedown at Pitzer, or the Grove House at Pitzer. These restaurants are open different hours than the dining halls, often until late at night, so you will be able to eat whenever you are hungry or whenever you want to socialize with friends on the five campuses.More information about the Meal Plan options will be posted shortly. The Claremont Colleges maintain the Student Health Services and Monsour Counseling Center for students. Services are available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday when classes are in session. Preventive medicine and health awareness are stressed and consultation and treatment by physicians, nurses and psychologists are available without charge. There may be a charge for medicines, laboratory tests, and special supplies; treatment by specialists in the community are arranged by the Student Health Service, but are paid for by students, not by the College. Emergency health services for serious injuries or for after hours or weekend treatment are available at two nearby hospitals (within 5 miles) and several urgent care clinics, again at the student's expense. The free medical services provided by the College are limited. Serious injuries, illness serious enough to warrant hospitalization and many medications can be quite expensive. It is important that you review your family health coverage.
Pomona College requires that all students carry health insurance. You may waive out of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) if you have a comparable alternative insurance plan. If you do not waive out, you will be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan through the Claremont Colleges and your student account will be billed.
International students on visas are automatically enrolled in the SASIP plan.
The insurance policy covers treatment for doctor and therapist visits, emergency care, medical and surgical treatment, diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, treatment of mental and nervous disorders, specialty consultations, and hospitalization (including inpatient hospitalization for mental health/psychiatric care and chemical dependency) while you are at Pomona College. The CUC student health insurance plan has also added some preventative care, including coverage for flu shots and STI/HIV testing at SHS. It covers you for all those services while you're a student at Pomona College or traveling in the United States or abroad. It covers injuries resulting from the practice or play of intramural/club sports. The annual fee is $1,779.00 for students under age 26 and $2,994.00 for students age 26 and over. To Waive or Enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan: Please complete the Enrollment/Waiver form available on the student tab of myPomona portal by July 1, 2013. Students not completing the form by July 1, 2013, or providing alternative medical insurance information prior to the beginning of the semester will be automatically enrolled in the Claremont College student insurance plan, and the student's account will be charged with the current annual student SHIP premium. The SHIP fee is reflected on your tuition bill. The College requires that proof of insurance be provided to the College EACH year that you are an enrolled student. If waivers have not been submitted by July 1, 2013, you will be automatically enrolled and the $1,779 will be charged to your account.
Financial Assistance for the Claremont College Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan
Pomona College recognizes that the cost of coverage in the Claremont College Student Accident and Insurance Program (SASIP) may cause financial hardship for some students and their families. For this reason, all students enrolled in SASIP who receive Pomona College financial aid will automatically be packaged with Pomona Grant to cover half of the cost of the health insurance and a loan to cover the second half. Students who would like to opt out of the loan portion should return the Revised Award Letter they receive, with an indication that they would like to “decline” the loan. Students who do not receive Pomona College financial aid can contact the Office of Financial Aid to request loan assistance to cover the full cost. Any questions regarding financial assistance should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.
Update Emergency Contact and Supplemental Information Form
Every year, we ask students to update their emergency contact and supplemental information. This information is necessary in the event of an emergency. If you have any serious allergies or take medication without which your health or emotional stability would be threatened, please share that information with us. Unless otherwise specified, the emergency contacts you list will be the ones notified in case of an emergency or a missing student notification.To access the form please go to https://my.pomona.edu/ics
Pomona College does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to personal property belonging to students. Parents and students should inspect their insurance policies to determine whether the limits and conditions are sufficient to cover student property in Claremont.
Loss or theft of personal property from student residence hall rooms does occur, aggravated by the fact that students often do not lock the doors to their rooms while away from them. It is important to both exercise caution at Pomona as one would at home, and to maintain adequate personal insurance to cover items that may be lost, stolen or damaged. The student-run ReCoop thrift store sells used furniture, appliances, and other dorm room items. ReCoop store will feature a variety of used items, including fridges, lamps, rugs, fans, hangers, furniture, and more. ReCoop will host a large sale on move-in day, plus their regular store hours throughout the semester. ReCoop is located in Walker Residence Hall Lounge, though their large sales are often elsewhere.
First-year students are not allowed to bring cars to campus, and we strongly encourage you to identify alternative means of local transportation, including bikes, public transportation and Zipcar. Zipcar is a service that rents cars (including Honda Civic Hybrids) to students 18 and over with good driving records. Pomona has contracted with Zipcar to provide hourly rental cars for students on campus. The membership is $25 and you get $35 in driving credit. Hourly rates start at $8 and daily rates start at $65. Prices vary depending on weekday or weekend use. Zipcar allows students to have short-term use of a car for shopping, medical appointments or other personal errands. Parking on Campus
The College does not allow first years to bring cars, and is working with Zipcar to place additional cars on campus as the need is demonstrated. Zipcars are now available in the Harrison parking lot adjacent to the academic quad, in the Tranquada lot, in the lot by the Joint Sciences building, and in the Sumner Hall parking lot. Students are required to register their vehicles with Campus Safety. Each student is allowed to have one car and pay a registration fee each semester with Campus Safety.
Telephone Service and Voicemail
Students who do not have a cell phone may request the installation of a land line (room extension). This request may be made through the Office of Campus Life upon arrival at the beginning of the semester. Students may sign up for voice-mail service on this extension at no charge. For long distance calls, students must use a personal calling card or cell phone.
Final Exam Schedules
The final exam schedules for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 are in the calendar section on the Pomona web at http://www.pomona.edu/registrar. The last final for Fall 2013 is on Friday December 20; for spring, it is on Friday, May 16. You should not make travel arrangements until you have confirmed when your last final will take place. (If you add a course late you are obligated to take that course's final according to the schedule, regardless of any alternate plans you may have made.)
Students who have three finals on two consecutive days, or who have a common final that occurs on the same time as another course may make alternate arrangements as necessary. Final exam changes for any other reason are not allowed except by approval of the Academic Procedures Committee. The APC generally frowns on requests that are presented on the basis prematurely made travel arrangements.
The residence halls close at noon on the Saturday after final examinations have ended each semester.
