More About This Program
The Studio Art program helps students develop the skills and concepts they need to create works of art with an awareness of both the contemporary and the historical context. Our proximity to Los Angeles exposes our students to the work of a great range of artists and artist practices and institutions. We offer courses in sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, and digital art. All of these are defined broadly, and students often work in forms that combine media and take the form of installation. Students can take advantage of courses offered at the other Claremont Colleges. Classes are small and emphasize interaction with professors. The Studio Art curriculum culminates in an exhibition of majors’ work during their senior year at the Pomona College Museum of Art. Our facilities allow students to work in a tremendous variety of 2D and 3D forms.
The Studio Art faculty represents a group of productive contemporary artists whose practices range from photography and public art pieces to sculptural installations, performance, computer art and conceptual drawings.
