Eat a deep-fried Twinkie at the Los Angeles County
Fair.
They’ll fry anything at this fair, which draws more than a million
people to the Fairplex in Pomona each September. In recent years, fair
vendors have been selling deep-fried artichokes hearts, deep-fried
zucchini, deep-fried egg rolls and deep-fried macaroni and cheese on a
stick. For dessert, you can always find those familiar deep-fried funnel
cakes. Or get adventurous with the deep-fried Oreos or the deep-fried
Snickers bar, which is frozen, dipped in corndog-style batter before
taking a dip in hot oil. Just as decadent are the deep-fried Twinkies,
which come topped with powdered sugar or chocolate sauce.
For this year’s fair, which starts Sept.10, vendors are certain to have
some new deep-fried innovations to wow the crowds. Just make sure you
indulge in these funky fried treats after you’re done with the spinning
rides.
