Family Weekend Home | Schedule | Accommodations

Feb. 12-14, 2010

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Family Members,

I am delighted to extend an invitation to you and your families to join us for Pomona Family Weekend, Feb. 12-14, 2010.

Our tradition of inviting families to campus is a great opportunity for your students to share their Pomona College experience with loved ones. Parents and families are able to meet and interact with faculty, staff and other members of the Pomona College community. Come and enjoy a little sample of what our students experience on a daily basis! It is also a wonderful opportunity for all of us to continue our conversations with you, and welcome you again into the Pomona College community.

The Office of Campus Life and the Parent Relations Office are currently crafting a rich and exciting schedule of events that promises to provide a variety of activities throughout the weekend. We want our guests to meet faculty, experience college, and engage in a range of academic and campus life discussions. Visit a Friday morning class and be part of the academic process. Join the Student Affairs staff in a discussion about life on campus at Pomona College. Go to an athletic event and cheer for our Sagehens. Attend a special interest lecture presented by some of our prestigious faculty. These are but a few things that you and your family can do during your visit to our campus. Some of this year's highlights are:

"Says You" Live Show Taping. "Says You," the national public radio game show of "words and whimsy, bluff and bluster" with host Richard Sher, will be doing a special live taping of the program, on the Pomona College campus, during Family Weekend. The program features a regular group of panelists, word games, language games, brain teasers, trivia and parlor games. Tickets are available to Family Weekend participants at the special price of $10 each.

Student Affairs Panel. Discuss life on campus with members of the Office of Student Affairs. Working closely with students and faculty, the Student Affairs division aims to provide co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for you to further pursue your intellectual interests, develop leadership skills, create inclusive and supportive communities on campus, and engage in meaningful volunteer activities, internship programs, and community-based work beyond the campus. The Office of Student Affairs is committed to providing students with the opportunities to take personal responsibility for living and learning at Pomona and beyond.

Musical Concert - Dual Pianos with Karl and Margaret Kohn. With his wife, Margaret, Karl Kohn has given two-piano concerts throughout this country and Europe, including definitive performances of works by Bartók, Berio, Stravinsky, Messiaen, Ligeti, and Boulez at. They will be performing at the Mabel Shaw Bridges Auditorium, better known as "Little Bridges." The venue seats 600 and provides a remarkable space for public events and performances of all kinds, including those of the Pomona College Orchestra, Choir, Glee Club, and other musical ensembles.

Ten-Minute Play Festival. Featuring plays written, produced and performed by members of the Pomona College Community, the Ten-Minute Play Festival has become one of the highlights of Family Weekend. Theater has a global resonance. It is a reflection of experience, identity, and culture. This festival seeks to identify the totality of experiences and voices that constitute the Claremont College community by asking: "How do contorted views of reality shape your future? What are your dreams? How do you survive?". This festival aspires to throw open the doors of theatrical possibilities by finding plays that energize, enlighten, and unify our community.

Registration starts in December, 2009. Until then, feel free to contact The Office of Campus Life for more information. I look forward to having you join us for the weekend!

Sincerely,
Miriam Feldblum
Vice President and Dean of Students
