Walking tour of Southern France
Join Ken Wolf and Peter Watson for an unforgettable trek through the Southern French
countryside and medieval European history. Start your journey in the remarkable city of Albi, which gave its name to the “Albigensian crusade” that Pope Innocent III launched to subdue the heresy. Continue through Foix, with its fine castle, making your way to some of the principal sites of the Cathars: Montségur, the center of the heresy for many years and the scene of a pivotal siege; Puylaurens, neatly tucked away in the heart of the mountains; and the stunning twin castles of Quéribus and Peyrepetuse. Leaving behind the quiet villages of the higher wooded slopes, you will cross the garrigue and the vineyards of Corbières and Fitou to the Mediterranean. As you proceed, the wines get stronger and darker, and the food more Mediterranean in its orientation. The imposing Cistercian Abbey of Fontfroide and the famous walled city of Carcassonne make for a fitting climax to your trek. for more information about this trip, please click here.
