New Student Orientation

Welcome, Class of 2017!

Pomona College welcomes first-year students to campus on Sunday, August 25, 2013, well before the start of classes, to give newcomers a chance to make friends and begin to adjust to college life.

The Pomona College New Student Orientation program sets the foundation for a student’s journey towards their holistic development, focused on personal and social responsibility, co-curricular education, and community engagement on and off campus. The orientation experience provides knowledge of the intellectual, cultural and social climate of the college in order for new students to learn the educational opportunities and responsibilities within a diverse and inspired community that values critical inquiry and creative learning that enables students to identify and address their intellectual passions.

The program is centered on meaningful exchanges designed to introduce new students to Pomona College and the Claremont community. By the end of the program, new students should be aware of reliable sources of information for academic issues and institutional policies and regulations. They should know of the rich support structures on campus to maintain their wellness and well-being on an emotional, social, and physical level. During orientation, new students should begin the process of making social connections within a diverse community and understand the rewards and challenges of living, learning and working within such a community. While students may not get all of their questions answered or anxieties addressed, we hope that they enter their first semester confident that they can find the help and resources they need to succeed.

The Office of Campus Life is currently in the process of organizing and crafting this year's Orientation Schedule. View a copy of the 2013 Orientation Schedule here [pdf] . Please note this schedule is for reference only; events, activities, dates, locations, etc., are subject to change.
